The OnPoint® Advantage: Weather Source’s products, fueled by our OnPoint platform, are just that—on point!

Each of our hyper-local solutions can be tailored to the points of interest most relevant to your business, from lat/lon coordinates to geographically bounded areas such as ZIP/Postal Code, designated market area (DMA), metropolitan statistical area (MSA), Census tract/block, county, and more.

Products for a Data-Driven Economy

Retail: A nationwide retailer used OnPoint Weather to quantify the impact of weather data on seasonal product sales. The creation of a predictive model helped the company stock and price inventory according to real-time seasonal changes rather than predetermined dates.

Logistics: A logistics company with tight delivery deadlines used OnPoint Weather to perform regression analysis and to identify weather conditions that result in delivery delays. Weather Source then created a model for the company to monitor forecast and OnPoint Climatology data for similar conditions, enabling them to adjust routes and schedules to prevent future setbacks.

Energy: An energy company used OnPoint Climatology to anticipate anomalies and potential changes in demand within their designated market areas as well as those of their competitors. This allowed the company to sell energy at a premium to neighboring utilities who experience high demand and low resources.

Healthcare: A busy hospital used OnPoint Weather to perform regression analysis on emergency room visits to better understand how they are influenced by weather. This allowed the provider to create a predictive model to forecast emergency room footfall traffic, with the end results being optimized staff resources and reduced patient wait times.

Real Estate: A large property management company relied on Weather Source to monitor weather’s impact on their asset locations. They also received alerts in real time when weather had the potential to damage an asset and a visit to the property was advised.

Defense: A large defense contractor ingested Weather Source’s entire continuum of data, from historical to present to forecast, to serve as a single source of truth for its globally distributed employees. This ensured all personnel were operating and modeling with globally uniform data free of discrepancies in spatial and/or temporal resolution.

Space: A large technology company used OnPoint Climatology to identify the ideal locations for ground-based satellite imaging stations by analyzing the likelihood of cloud cover, precipitation, and fog occurring at each.

Why Weather Source?

Unlike most weather data providers, who simply extend weather information to your location, Weather Source approaches its weather and climate data in a much different way. Weather Source’s patent-pending OnPoint Platform curates, decodes, and unifies data from the best weather sensing technologies available then stages the data on our OnPoint Grid. This globally consistent, 5-kilometer grid covers every land mass in the world and up to 200 miles offshore. Each grid point— millions in total—represents a “virtual” weather station with a unique OnPoint ID from which weather data can be mapped. This high-resolution method ensures your location of interest is never more than 2.2 miles away from an OnPoint ID.

Many of our competitors rely solely on data from airport observation stations, which are often too far—up to hundreds of miles—from your location to provide actionable information. Furthermore, up to 25% of airport observation stations routinely report gaps and errors in their data.

Weather Source gathers its data using more precise methods. When you choose our products, you can expect:

  • Extensive meteorology and climatology expertise
  • A variety of reliable inputs, including airport observation station, satellite (GOES 16 & 17, POES, TRMM), radar, and local sensor data
  • The use of meteorological algorithms and models to process incoming data
  • The incorporation of essential factors such as geography, topography, and elevation
  • Rigorous quality control measures
  • A deep, historical database
  • Uniform, analytics-grade data
  • A continuum of data from the year 2000 to present and with 15-day forecast as well as an enhanced outlook to 42 days
  • Ease of integration with data analytics platforms such as BigQuery, CARTO, Looker, Microsoft Azure & Power BI, Qlik, and Snoflake

Weather Source ingests all available weather inputs, unifies them under our intelligent code. OnPoint Weather brings together multiple sources of weather data, including: Satellites, Radar, Weather Station Observations, Weather IoT Observations, Weather Models. The result is a weather data set that is comprehensive, accurate and complete for any location at any point in time—made possible by creating “virtual” weather stations at your points of interest and resolves issues related to geography, topography, and elevation to deliver accurate predictions at any point on Earth.

Unparalleled Quality

Weather Source has perfected its data quality processes to ensure your data is error-free, gap-free, and instantly usable. We continuously ingest and process data from thousands of U.S. and international inputs then monitor and correct for errors.

This quality control process includes a battery of tests such as observation consistency—for example, snow isn’t possible at 70°F—and comparisons against companion datasets. Missing or erroneous observations are replaced with estimates derived from surrounding data points, so you can rest assured the information you receive is accurate.

Ready for Machine Learning

It can be tedious and time-intensive to manually correct for inconsistencies when data is collected from numerous, disparate sources. By unifying inputs within the OnPoint Platform, your weather data is homogenized and prepared for immediate analysis.
